Whitman Wharf House B&B, Historic Canso, NSAbout Us

My family and I have lived in Canada for almost twenty years. Although we frequently visit our relatives in the UK and always love our visits we have come to realize that we are now probably more Canadian than we are British.

I first travelled from Ontario to Nova Scotia a few years ago, and instantly fell in love with the coastal views and the warm hospitality of the people. At the time I was studying for my doctorate at the University of Toronto, but I resolved to return to Nova Scotia. With the last of my three children making her application to universities and planning to leave home I returned to Nova Scotia to look at properties for sale.

As soon as I saw Whitman Wharf House, I fell in love with it. It seemed to me the perfect spot for getting away; a nature lovers' paradise. My ideas were confirmed when my family converged from all quarters of the globe for the Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Canso. We rediscovered the joy of renewing connections and family friendships in this peaceful setting.

At the same time we recognized that what drew us to the location was also a reflection of our British heritage; a love of history, of nature, the rugged unspoilt, uncommercialized location, a romantic's notion of the ocean and a passion for wildlife. This is what we now hope to share with you.
